Honda Aims to Advance Teen Driver Safety with this new App

Global automaker Honda has announced a new driver education and safety awareness app that's designed to help new drivers develop safe driving habits that can improve overall roadway safety.

Honda’s Driver Coaching App is free to download on the Apple App Store and provides new drivers with real-time driving data and analysis. The app is compatible with many Honda and Acura vehicles that feature Apple CarPlay and seeks to revolutionize how new drivers approach safety while on the roadways.

The app is engaged after a driver’s iPhone connects to a compatible vehicle. Once connected, the app will display instructions, lessons, and feedback on the vehicle's touchscreen system.

Honda “Gamifies” Safety for New Drivers

The Driver Coaching App is intuitive, easy to operate, and provides real-time data for drivers to reflect on. Unlike traditional driver safety resources, Honda meets drivers where they are through a gamified approach so that drivers can learn and apply the information in an organic and engaging way.

Game components allow the lessons to be fun and informative while in use. The app analyzes a number of metrics including braking, acceleration, and steering to determine where a driver needs assistance and where they have improved their skills. At the end of every lesson, a score is calculated that allows drivers to track their progress. There is also a library of lessons that allow drivers to practice and learn more about skills of their choosing.

Honda Builds on Commitment to Safety

Honda maintains that the Driver Coaching App is designed to be used as a supplemental resource to formal driver education. Additionally, the Driver Coaching App builds on Honda's already sound approach of “Safety for Everyone.” This is Honda's commitment to promoting safe driving habits for all drivers on today's roadways.

Driver Coaching App Target's Most Vulnerable Drivers

According to the latest data, nearly one-third of all U.S. automotive fatalities involve drivers aged 25 and younger. Younger drivers are especially susceptible to roadway injuries and fatalities because of heightened rates of distraction, unsafe driving habits, and lack of experience.

Through this newly developed app, Honda seeks to keep new drivers as safe as possible when they are behind the wheel.
