If your day is spent shuttling children around, you deserve a three-row ride that serves your needs. Thankfully, there are two in the Honda lineup that can take care of parents and kids in style. The 2018 Honda Pilot and the 2018 Honda Odyssey offer similar attributes but are definitely different.
Performance
If performance and capability are your main concern, here’s what you need to know. Both have a powerful V6 engine that churns out 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. However, the Odyssey is offered only with front-wheel drive while the Pilot offers a choice of drivetrains. All-wheel drive grants the Pilot driver more all-weather capability. Furthermore, the AWD Pilot can tow up to 5,000 pounds while the FWD Odyssey must limit itself to 3,000 pounds. Since it is smaller, the Pilot has a tighter turning circle and a better horsepower-to-weight ratio.
Interior
The Odyssey has 163.6 cu.ft. of passenger space while the Pilot has a generous 152.9 cu.ft. In the LX editions, Pilots seat eight while Odysseys seat seven, but either model can be configured for 7 or 8. Longer by eight inches, the Odyssey offers more cargo space as well. This allows the Honda Odyssey to have more legroom on the second and third rows. While Pilots have wide-open side doors, Odysseys have power-slide doors. Both are offering a power liftgate with a hands-free option. Both have plenty of LATCH attachments for carseats. They each offer seats that can be moved easily to allow for entry to the third row. You can get a power-fold second- and third-row on the Pilot. This creates a flat space that measures over 83.9 cu.ft. Folding the third row in the Odyssey creates some 88 cu.ft. of space. You can get a bigger space, but it does require the removal of the minivan's second-row seats.
Technology and Amenities
The two models offer the same Honda touchscreen systems. On the EX of either vehicle, there’s an eight-inch touchscreen. Drivers will appreciate the help of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In either vehicle, you can get a rear entertainment center, a wireless charger, and plenty of USB ports. Odysseys offer two new Honda exclusives, CabinWatch and CabinTalk. These high tech features allow parents to see what children are doing and to have a conversation without turning around or shouting. Odysseys also offer an integrated vacuum, a chilled storage unit, and standard stain-resistant cloth upholstery. On the other hand, the Pilot is the only one to offer a panoramic moonroof. There are many common amenities such as leather upholstery and heated and ventilated seats. EX and higher trims provide Honda Sensing equipment such as an autobrake and a lane keeper.
