As one of the top-selling and most critically decorated automotive nameplates in history, the Honda Civic gets a facelift in the 2019 model year: midway through its tenth production cycle. The 2019 Honda Civic is available as a sedan, coupe, and hatchback, and each bodystyle is accompanied by its higher-performance counterparts: the Si Coupe, the Si Sedan, and the Type R, respectively.
Performance
The base engine on the 2019 Honda Civic is a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. You can always upgrade to the turbocharged 1.5-liter I4, which provides 174 horsepower and up to 167 lb-ft of torque. On the Si coupe and sedan, the 1.5-liter is tweaked to put out 205 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque, and the Type R—the most powerful of the lot—goes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 with 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. As the sportier versions of the Civic, the Si and Type R variants have their engines pinned to a 6-speed manual transmission. The regular Civic trims give you a choice between the 6-speed manual gearbox and a continuously variable transmission. Notably, the Sport trim is now available as a coupe and sedan, and it now gets the 2.0-liter instead of the 1.5-liter turbo.
Interior
The 2019 Honda Civic seats five with its two rows of seats, although the hatchback provides the most interior space (followed by the sedan, then the coupe). Standard cloth upholstery is standard, with the option of upgrading to leather seat surfaces, heated front and rear seats, a leather steering wheel, and power-adjustable front seats. Other standard interior features include Bluetooth, four-speaker audio, a USB port, and a 5-inch LCD color display screen. Upper-level trims and the high-performance variants are more likely to have features such as smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, push-button engine start, dual-zone automatic climate control, HondaLink remote connectivity, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an additional USB port, a 10-speaker audio system, a 7-inch color touchscreen, a moonroof, and a navigation system.
Safety
For 2019, Honda Sensing—a driver-assistant tech package that includes lane departure warning, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, and lane keep assist—is standard on all trims and variants of the Civic. Also standard are a rearview camera, anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, LED daytime running lights, and six airbags. Honda LaneWatch, which is a blind spot monitoring system, is available.
