Debuting as a 2006 model-year vehicle, the Ridgeline marked a precedent for Honda. Long the domain of American automakers, the pickup truck segment now had an import that straddled the line between sport utility and fuel efficiency. The 2017 model year kicked off the nameplate’s second generation; changes from that model carried over into 2018. The trims available on the 2018 Honda Ridgeline are the RT, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, and Black Edition.

Performance

For brisk acceleration and suitable towing ability, the 2018 Honda Ridgeline uses a transversely front-mounted 3.5-liter V6 engine, which supplies 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Tied to a 6-speed automatic transmission, the engine enables a peak towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. You can choose between a front-wheel drivetrain and an all-wheel drivetrain; the latter not only improves traction on slippery surfaces, but also provides the aforementioned peak towing capacity. The Eco Assist System included with the powertrain enables a high level of fuel efficiency.

Interior and Features

The 2018 Honda Ridgeline can seat up to five people, and it provides a peak passenger volume of 109.7 cubic feet. (The RTL-E and Black Edition come with 108.9 cubic feet.) Seat and steering-wheel leather trim, 10-way power adjustment and power lumbar support on the driver’s seat, 4-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat, and front-seat heating ability go on the RTL and higher. And steering-wheel heating capability and two-position memory system for the driver’s side are reserved for the RTL-E and Black Edition. Base-level standard comfort and convenience features on the Ridgeline include cruise control, push-button engine start, Bluetooth connectivity, a 4.2-inch color LCD screen for displaying vital vehicle information, and a seven-speaker 200-watt sound system with a 5-inch color LCD screen. Upgrading to the Sport adds remote engine start, air-purifying tri-zone automatic climate control, and the HomeLink universal transceiver for remote-controlling house features. The RTL-T and higher trims have an auto-dimming rearview mirror, 8-inch touchscreen navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HondaLink for infotainment integration, HD Radio, and a trial SiriusXM satellite radio subscription. A truck-bed eight-speaker 540-watt sound system is exclusive to the RTL-T and Black Edition.

Safety

Standard safety features on the 2018 Ridgeline include hill start assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution, rearview camera, daytime running lights, and front-impact, side-impact, and side curtain airbags. The RTL-T and Black Edition have additional collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and a blind spot information system with a cross-traffic monitor.
