Performance
The Pilot comes standard with a powerful 3.5-liter, i-VTEC V6 engine. Honda tuned it to develop a brawny 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. By comparison, the Toyota Highlander’s base four-cylinder engine develops a mere 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. When hauling around a full load of passengers, you will certainly benefit from the Pilot’s extra muscle. Although the Highlander has an optional V6 engine, buyers are forced to spend more money. Better fuel efficiency gives the Pilot yet another advantage. While the V6-powered Pilot can return up to 27 mpg on the highway, the four-cylinder Highlander tops out at only 24 mpg.
Interior
Both of these three-row crossovers are designed to accommodate up to eight people. However, the Honda Pilot provides more space for your family and friends to stretch out. Even adults can easily fit in the Pilot’s third-row seat. While the Pilot’s third-row seat offers an impressive 31.9 inches of legroom, the Highlander’s third-row seat provides just 27.7 inches of legroom. Long road trips will be far more comfortable in the Pilot. You can also take advantage of the Pilot’s roomier cargo area, which provides an additional 2.7 cubic feet of storage space.
Safety
While the Highlander offers advanced driving aids like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, there are certain safety innovations that you’ll only find on the Honda Pilot.
