One of the Honda Fit's chief competitors is the Toyota Yaris. This is a rather complicated comparison, however, seeing that the Yaris can be purchased either as a 3-door or 5-door. Performance

The 2018 Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris are models targeted toward the fuel-sipping crowd. The Fit does have a slightly more powerful engine, rated at 120 horsepower, while the Yaris checks in at only 106 horsepower. It's also noteworthy that the optional CVT on the Fit is rather smooth-shifting, but the available automatic transmission on the Yaris is a four-speed, something of a relic in 2018. The manual transmission offered on the Fit is six-speed, giving the driver plenty of control when climbing or descending hills. Hill Start Assist is standard on the 2018 Honda fit, but it's not available on the Yaris.

Interior Features

Honda performed quite a bit of freshening up on the interior of the Fit last year. It's important to remember that a mid-year upgrade was introduced just months ago, and this is the model now arriving in showrooms across the country. Standard features on the 2018 Fit LX trim include a telescopic steering column, cruise control, multi-function remote, and stereo anti-theft. None of these are available on the 2018 Yaris L 5-door. The Fit also comes with the Magic Seat in the rear, a 60/40 split that comes with the nice feature of lower cushion flip-up for the carrying of taller items. The Sport, EX, and EX-L models come with a standard 7-inch screen display. The 2018 Toyota Yaris comes with Entune, but the screen display is smaller, and the nice sport analog instrumentation is not offered on the base trim.

Optional Equipment

Most vehicles in the $16-18K price range don't even offer a complete driver awareness package. The 2018 Honda Fit does. For a modest price increase, one gets the Honda Sensing driver aids that include lane-keeping assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Certain accessories such as fog lights are available on all Fit trims but are not to be found as an option on the Yaris.

The folks at Honda are calling the 2018 Fit a compact hatchback with attitude. You won't enjoy a powerful engine or race track performance, but you will get quite a bang for your buck.
